Dr. Srini Ramaswamy

Dr. Srini Ramaswamy is currently leading the Industrial Software Systems research group at ABB Corporate Research Center (INCRC) in Bangalore, India. His primary responsibility is in research team building and leadership, developing university relationships and engaging in applied research for the creation and execution of projects with transformative value for the company's power technologies and process automation business units. On the academic front, he also holds a visiting professor appointment at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and an honorary adjunct professor at the Indian Institute of Information Technology – Bangalore.  His  research interests are on intelligent and flexible control, behavior modeling, analysis and simulation, empirical software systems research, software stability and scalability; particularly in the design and development of complex software systems. Specific applications include real-time control issues in automation and manufacturing, data mining and distributed real-time applications. His work is motivated by the desire to understand the various requirements to build scalable, intelligent software systems with the inherent ability to successfully respond to observed and reported behavioral changes in their environment.  Earlier in US academia for 16 years (1994-2010), his research was funded by government agencies as well as corporate organizations, and he had been a recipient of, or actively participated in, grants totaling over $20M. He was an invited visiting professor at INSA de Rouen, France in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010.  During the summers of 2003 and 2004, and in 2007, he was a visiting research professor in the Institute of Software Integrated Systems (ISIS) at Vanderbilt University. In 1994-1995, and subsequently during the summers of 1996 and 1998, he was a post-doctoral research fellow / visiting scientist at the University of Texas at Austin where he helped with research efforts on Modeling and Analysis of Sensible Agents, Virtual Reality and Multi-Agent Systems. He is a Senior member of the IEEE and a Senior member of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM).  He is an active member of IEEE SMCS Technical Committee on Distributed Intelligent Systems and also serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, Part C: Applications and Reviews.

Dr. Ian Peake
 

Dr. Ian Peake is a research fellow with RMIT Platform Technology Research Institute and School of Computer Science and Information Technology. His research interests include software architecture and design recovery, with a focus on architecture-based quality assurance and prediction of real time and reliability. From 2003-2006 he was a research fellow at Monash University working on extra-functional prediction of distributed component-based control systems (TCAP/eCAP), and PLC code reuse in digital models of automation systems (PRiMA), in collaboration with ABB's German Research Centre (DECRC).

From 1992-2002 he was a research assistant, PhD student, lecturer
and member of the Centre for Software Maintenance in the School of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. He received his PhD at UQ in 2001.

Dr. Atul Kumar
 

Dr. Atul Kumar is a Principal Scientist at ABB Corporate Research, India. His research interests are in the areas of Distributed Systems, Software Engineering, Operating Systems and Internet Technologies. Before joining ABB, he has worked for IBM, Microsoft and Accenture. He received his PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kanpur.

Daniel Balasubramanian
 
Daniel Balasubramanian is a PhD student of Professor Gabor Karsai at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.  His research interests include domain-specific languages, semantics and the application of formal methods to model-based development.  As an intern, Daniel worked at Microsoft Research Redmond on the design of Formula, a tool for defining and exploring domain-specific languages, and has continued this work in his graduate studies.  His work also focuses on formal analysis of domain-specific languages.

Mr. David Threm
 

Mr. David Threm is the Applications Development Manager for Defense Enterprise Applications at ITT Corporation.  He leads an agile development team in the creation, deployment and integration of industrial-strength, enterprise-wide, service-oriented applications.  His areas of applications include: Business Process Management and Workflow, Trade Compliance, Financials and Time Keeping, Business Intelligence, Six Sigma, Human Resources and Opportunity Management and Forecasting. 
Mr. Threm is doctoral candidate in Integrated Computing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  He has a Master of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The Ohio State University. He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt.  Mr. Threm is a member of IEEE and ACM.

Wagesh Kulkarni
 

Wagesh Kulkarni a Usability and HCI researcher has been with the ABB Corporate Research, Bangalore India for two years. In ABB his main research interests are in the area of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). Wagesh has received his Masters in fine arts from JN School of Arts, Karnataka. He has conducted workshops at IIIT Allahabad, IIT Mumbai and MNNIT Allahabad on Industrial user experience in the year 2009 and 2010. Prior to ABB, Wagesh worked with Infor Global solutions an ERP product based company for nine years, where he has handled various web based applications from scratch to end.

Dr. Meenakshi D’ Souza
 

Dr. Meenakshi D’ Souza did her Master’s in Mathematics from University of Madras, Chennai and her Ph. D. in Theoretical Computer Science from The Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore. Her research interests are in Formal Methods, Model Based Development, Automata Theory and Enterprise Security. She is also interested in Research and Technology Strategy and Intellectual Property Rights Management.

Dr. Anil Nair
 

Dr. Anil Nair is a Principal Scientist at ABB corporate research, Bangalore. His primary research interests include software engineering, software reliability, software lifecycle process improvements and soft computing methods. Anil received his PhD in software reliability from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India (IITB) and bachelor of Technology from University of Calicut, Kerala, India.  He is a certified PMP (Project management professional) and a Six sigma Black belt. He has around 14 years experience in various stages of the Software Engineering, Software Metrics, Software Reliability, Software quality, CMMI and Six sigma. His prior industry experience include Deloitte consulting, L&T InfoTech, Crompton Greaves and Hitachi.

Ganga Prasad
 

Ganga Prasad has mainly worked in the software Research & Development both in Government Institutions (CDAC) and in Industry and has over 25 years of experience. He has also experience in working on hardware development on microprocessor based controlling devices. He has worked in the area of design and development of products in Parallel Processing, Real Time Systems, Fault Tolerant Systems and Computer networks.

He has also worked in developing several innovative ICT technologies and tools for Rural Development. He was instrumental executing the India's first ever e-mail based Computer Networking Course way back in 1996-97, which was later carried as a serial in Computer Express magazine.

He was the key designer of the first indigenously developed SCADA, which won the Golden Eagle award presented by IETE in the year 2002. He was instrumental in setting up of several groups in CDAC like Networking, Graphics, Training School, Real Time Systems and ICT for Development.

He has co-authored a book on GUI. He has published over 15 research papers both in national and international conferences. He has guided over 200 BTech and 30 MTech students for their thesis work.

He is a member of several institutions like IEEE, ACCS, ACM, IETE & CSI. Currently he is a senior Scientist and Director of ACTS at CDAC Bangalore. Prior to this he was Vice President of Encore Software Limited has a Masters Degree in Electronics & Communications from NIT, Suratkal.

Dr. Alpana Dubey
 

Dr. Alpana Dubey's research interests are in the areas of Software Engineering, Programming Languages, and Compilers. She has over four years of industry experience and has worked with research labs at Philips and Siemens at India . Some of the projects she has worked on are in the areas of program analysis, defection classification, and evaluation of legacy programs for SOA migration.  Currently she is exploring how effectively the software engineering principles and practices can be adopted to the  control/ automation engineering projects.

Alpana has received her PhD in Computer Sc. and Engg. from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) in 2007. She is a member of IEEE and ACM.

Sanjay Tripathi
 

Sanjay Tripathi holds PHD in HCI and Masters in technology and management from Flensburg University, Germany. At present he is working as scientist at the ABB Corporate Research Bangalore center. Prior to ABB, he worked at large software service provider company in India and major part of his professional life being spent in various industry/academia research projects in Germany. Sanjay has been associated with various international conference like ACM-CHI, Interact, Mobile HCI, and delivered keynotes at IEC conference HWWE 2007, Mobile VAS summit 2009, and IHCI2010. He is chairing a special session on industrial user experience at HCII2011, Florida USA and chairing the ACM International conference on Human Computer Interaction India HCI 2011.
